Unless the orbit of the earth slows down, we are stuck with managing our life in 24 hours. I cannot make more time, but I can make the time you do have more productive. Here is the first of a 7-Step List to get you started:
1. Write clearly defined Goals and Priorities:
Your goals drive your actions. Your priorities represent your “steering wheel” to keep you focused on the right course.
A goal becomes effective when you have also identified the plan to achieve it. For example: Say, you have a goal of increasing revenue 20% over the prior year. Ask yourself, ”Exactly, how am I going to accomplish this goal?”
Identify daily/weekly priorities that work towards achieving a stated goal.
Critical: Write these priority action items (tasks) in your calendar.
Change your goals if necessary, but always challenge yourself why you are changing the goal, otherwise you can slip into the “starting but never completing anything” syndrome.
Look at your goals every week to keep them always fresh in your mind, and to keep you charged up and focused. Set a reminder in your calendar for Monday mornings to take a moment to read them.
When you don’t have clear goals and priorities, you are just wandering, unfocused. You will be wasting so much time as your efforts are misused. Your time is your money. Your time is precious. You don’t want to be six months down the road, only to realize that you didn’t achieve what you had somewhere in the back of your mind had hoped to achieve. Get it out of your mind and write it down.
